OREANDA-NEWS. On January 14-15, 2007 during the annual meeting of World Nuclear Association (WNA), in London (United Kingdom), the official WNA membership of Lietuvos Energija AB was recognized, reported the press-centre of Lietuvos Energija AB.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of Nuclear Department of Lietuvos Energija AB. This membership is useful in preparation for construction of a new nuclear power plant in Lithuania.

During the two-day meeting issues related to nuclear energy safety, nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste treatment and other issues, dealing with nuclear energy, were discussed. Mr.Marius Grinevicius, Director of Nuclear Energy Department, was invited to WNA work group for trade issues where he gave a presentation “Project of New Nuclear Plant in Lithuania“.

“The WNA membership provides a possibility to receive the latest information on various aspects dealing with the development of nuclear energy sector. This information is requisite while implementing the new NPP project in Lithuania“, - said Mr.Marius Grinevicius, Director of Nuclear Energy Department of Lietuvos Energija AB. According to him, the accumulated knowledge and membership in WNA will later be transferred to company, implementing the project of new nuclear power plant in Lithuania.

The World Nuclear Association (WNA) is an international non-profit organization, aimed at promotion of peaceful use of nuclear energy. Currently, WNA embraces 150 members, of which 95 per cent are nuclear fuel cycling enterprises and over 85 per cent – nuclear power plant generators from around the globe.
