The 1st inspection audit took place at the “Severstal-metiz” Cherepovets plant to check that its quality management system (QMS) conforms to the international standard ISO/TS 16949:2002 for calibrated rolled metal, cold heading wire and steel shaped profiles, the company's press service reported.

The auditors were representatives of the international company DNV*. The scope of the audit was the processes relating to the manufacture of calibrated rolled metal, cold heading wire and steel shaped profiles, from the purchase of raw material, through the manufacturing process and to end customer service.  The audit confirmed that JSC “Severstal-metiz” met the requirements of the standard for these products.

ISO/TS 16949 – “Quality management systems – particular requirements for the application of ISO 9001:2000 for automotive production and relevant service part organisations” – is the international management system standard based on ISO 9001:2000 developed for the automotive industry. The standard defines system requirements for the design and development, production and when relevant, installation and service of automotive related products.

The aim of the standard is the development of a process based management system that focuses on continual improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste within the automotive supply chain.
