OREANDA-NEWS. January 24, 2008. The press service of Kazakhmys Plc announced that today the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev visited the Kazakhmys facilities at Zhezkazgan, along with other members of the Government and business leaders in Kazakhstan. The principle purpose of the visit was to discuss the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility and the role that companies, both local and international, should play in assisting social development. Zhezkazgan was chosen for the meeting because of the key role that Kazakhmys has played in the area and the trip highlighted the substantial commitment and investment of the Group within the communities surrounding its operations. This is the largest corporate social programme in Kazakhstan. In the course of the visit, Vladimir Kim was asked about operations and confirmed that production in 2007 had been in line with the guidance given in September.

Vladimir Kim, Chairman of Kazakhmys, said: “We are delighted to have been able to hold this meeting here today and to show some of the social programmes that we have carried out. The success of our Group has allowed us to assist and invest in our workforce and the local communities. We would encourage others to join with us and to ensure that Kazakhstan has a workforce that is well placed to compete in the future.”
