OREANDA-NEWS. January 25, 2008. Transaero Airlines has expressed its commitment to the world's largest global corporate citizenship initiative by becoming a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, the press service of the company reports. Members of the Compact are committed to aligning operations and corporate strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor rights and environmental responsibility. The principles of the Compact will be reflected in the company’s corporate strategy.

Transaero’s letter of support for the UN Global Compact, signed by Transaero Airlines General Director Olga Pleshakova, and sent to UN Secretary-General Mr. Ban Ki-moon was delivered to Georg Kell, Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Office who welcomed Transaero to the organization.

“Participation in the UN Global Compact represents an important confirmation of Transaero’s dedication to the principles of openness, human dignity and transparency and underscores our dedication to international standards of social responsibility in business,” says Olga Pleshakova.

The Global Compact was initiated by the UN in 1999. The voluntary organization is aimed at uniting companies, labor organizations, civil organizations and UN bodies in an effort to develop social responsibility and standards of corporate citizenship on a global basis. Global Compact participants mainstream the ten principles in their business activities and show their commitment to the ten principles by incorporating them into concrete programs. Since its official launch the initiative has grown to almost 5,000 participants, with 3,700 businesses in 120 countries around the world including 24 Russian companies.
