OREANDA-NEWS. January 25, 2008. RоsUkrEnergo delivered 1 billion cubic meters of gas to Ukraine instead of Central Asian during the period from January 1 to January 23, 2008, company's press secretary Andrei Knutov said. He noted that RUE buys this gas from Gazprom at the price of $314.7 per 1,000 cubic meters. He added that UkrGazEnergo still owns RosUkrEnergo about $719 million. A week ago the sum of the debt was estimated at $830 million.

RоsUkrEnergo delivers Russian gas to Ukraine to compensate the decreasing amounts of gas from Central Asia. Gas deliveries from Central Asian states were down due to the abnormally cold weather in the region. Russian gas is much more expensive. According to the latest agreements, Russia sells Central Asian gas to Ukraine at the price of $179.5 per 1,000 cubic meters, while Russian gas (bought by RosUkrEnergo from Gazprom) costs $314.7 per 1,000 cubic meters. All the sides didn't say anything about the possibility of raising the gas price for Ukraine due to the change of the source of deliveries.

Now all the gas for Ukraine is being delivered through the Swiss trading company RosUkrEnergo (Gazprom - 50%, Centragas Holding AG - 50%). In 2007 it was planned to deliver 55 billion cubic meters. Gazprom sells Russian gas to RosUkrEnergo at the price of $230 for 1 thousand cubic meters, and also gas from Central Asia (in particular Turkmenistan) at the price of $100 for 1 thousand cubic meters. RosUkrEnergo in its turn sells the gas to Ukraine (through UkrGazEnergo) in 2007 at the price of $130 for 1 thousand cubic meters (in 2006 the price was $95). The price for 2008 was set at the level of $179.5. UkrGazEnergo in its turn delivers the resources to the Ukrainian consumers.
