OREANDA-NEWS. February 5, 2008. Ukraine plans to reduce electric power exports 29.4% in 2008 (compared to 2007) to 6.5 billion kilowatt-hours. According to the forecast made by the state foreign-economic entity Ukrinterenergo, exports decrease will be attributed to the repair works at the energy system objects. At the same time Ukrinterenergo noted that the planned export volumes could be reconsidered in the future. Ukraine plans to export electric energy worth at about $525.5 billion in 2008.

In 2007 Ukraine's electric power exports were down 11.8% compared to 2006 due to the reduction of the capacity of Burshtynskaya thermal power plant from 550 to 320 megawatt. The capacity reduced due to the repair works at the energy units of the plant in May-June and September-October 2007. Moreover, Ukraine suspended energy exports to Poland (due to low prices) starting from October 1, 2007. The country also stopped exporting electricity to Belarus and to Russia (starting from July, 1 and Octover, 1 respectively) because of an increased energy consumption in Ukraine, coal deficit and lack of cheap electric energy for export.
