OREANDA-NEWS. On 6 February 2008  Aleksey Shaburov, Director General of MVK and initiator of some original and challenging projects, announced at the closing ceremony of the Mobile Polar Museum, that MVK International Exhibition Company will launch its new project dedicated to the art of calligraphy. International Calligraphic Exhibition is another link in the chain of historical and socially important projects started up by MVK International Exhibition Company and its executives, Andrei Lapshin and Aleksey Shaburov, in particular.

Calligraphy (from Greek kallos "beauty" + graphẽ "writing") is the art of fine and neat writing. The story of calligraphy is closely connected with the history of cursive type and writing materials invention. Before the book printing was implemented, calligraphy was the chief method of text graphic design.

The project is aimed at introducing professionals (artists, art schools students), amateurs all with same passion, the art of calligraphy. As a matter of fact, the art calligraphy has been neglected in recent years. Visitors of the Exhibition will try their hand in this fine and delicate art, participating in numerous art contests and quizzes. International Calligraphic Exhibition presupposes a number of seminars and master classes. The organizers will bring to the audience’s attention the Calligraphic catalogue containing the works of the world Masters. The project will be prepared by the specialists from Russia and abroad.

A new Mobile Museum will be opened in the framework of the Exhibition. The Museum’s exposition will contain the most interesting and unstudied samples of Slavic script. Thus, the Calligraphic Exhibition is an attempt to retrace the evolution of Russian writing and national identity.

The project Calligraphy touches upon both aesthetic and social aspects. The idea of bringing up the youths by example of great events and people was logically developed in this MVK project dedicated to the rare art of calligraphy. This art is an invaluable heritage of Russian writing which provides wide opportunities for further exploration of Russian culture. The Calligraphic exhibition is the symbol of return to the sources of national identity.

Calligraphy soothes human psyche, develops the most delicate hand muscles and stimulates the work of brain and fantasy.  In former times the Letter as the sample of fairness and diversity of the world inspired creative activity of children. Consequently, in the nearest future MVK plans to open the first calligraphic educational centers for children in Russia. Our aim is to form beautiful and healthy society.

The project will be introduced to the general audience on September 16-21, 2008 in St.Petersburg; after that it will be demonstrated in the framework of the Equiros-South exhibition on October 3-6 in Rostov-on-Don and at the Russian Parliament (State Duma) on November 18-21, 2008.
