The demand for Turkmen ‘white gold’ steadily increases on world market that is vividly proved by the results the Lebap Velayat cotton-processing enterprises achieved in 2007. 56,000 tons of high-quality cotton fibre was exported that was as many as 22,000 tons as compared to 2006. The textile firms and companies from Switzerland, Singapore, China, Great Britain, Cyprus and other countries worldwide concluded the contracts for cotton grown on the banks of the Amu Darya River at the Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan. Over 5,000 tons of lint cotton and over 1,500 tons of ginned cotton were exported in 2007.
