OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2007. "Postal system modernization, improvement of quality and delivery terms of written correspondence and periodicals, reduction of postal services cost", First Deputy Prime Minister of the RF Sergey Ivanov noted the top goals for postal services development in the country in his report at the Enlarged Session of the Collegium of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the RF, reported the press-centre of Russian Post.

Development of this sector will help to convert to new technical service standards, optimize logistics resources. Herewith, improvement of logistics infrastructure at post at the major part of European territory of the country should be over by 2009, Ivanov said.

In his report Leonid Reiman, the Minister for Information Technologies and Communications of the RF noted modernization of postal service and extension of FSUE Russian Post activities as universal logistics operator along with the tasks on development of other trends. According to the Minister of Communications and IT, "modernization of postal service means development of logistics optimization programs and construction of automated sorting centers on sorting correspondence". Post is to set twenty seven automated centers Russia-wide, two of them are being built in Moscow and Saint Petersburg now. Moreover, the enterprise is to continue reconstructing post offices network and implement new services, including IT-based ones, noted the Minister. Thus, implementing unified information system of post offices’ management helped to grant financial services in all the regions of the RF and set unified infocommunication network in 79 of them.

Moreover, other participants also noted the necessity of postal service development as one of the most important components of further economic development of Russia in their reports. Modernisation program is at the closing stage of approval by the federal authorities and they will adopt it in the near future, Minister noted.
