OREANDA-NEWS. February 13, 2007. In December 31, 2007 after completion of 129 projects of the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) INTERREG III B Neighbourhood program, the Joint Secretariat and Steering Committee  evaluated and selected 3 most successful projects of this program in the sectors of transport, environment and business development.  „East-West Transport Corridor“ (Rytu - Vakaru transporto koridorius) Project, where in 2006 - 2007 Se Klaipeda State Seaport Authority participated as a partner was recognized as the most successful transport Project among the whole INTERREG III B program, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda State Seaport.

Baltic Sea Region INTERREG III B program managing institutions – Joint Secretariat (responsible for direct management of the projects) and Steering Committee (responsible for allocation of funds) selected 3 sectors for evaluation of projects: transport, environment and business development, because in the new INTERREG IV B program there is planned to execute the projects namely in those sectors.

Therefore, the following criteria were chosen: project sectors – Project was to be of transport, environment or business sectors, Project results – Project partners were to receive concrete results and benefit, that should not lose their relevance after completion of the project, Project multi-nationality – Project was to cover as many partners as possible from different countries and there had to participate partners from Russia and/or Belarus.

„EAST-WEST TRANSPORT CORRIDOR“ project (more about it www.eastwesttc.org ) corresponded all those criteria. Valuation Commission was especially interested in the results of Klaipeda port, effective cooperation in developing this Baltic Sea Region Transport Corridor and intentions and plans of Project partners to further increase the effectiveness of this corridor in the future.

The foreseen continuation of this Project once more ensures that it was especially useful for the partners. Within the framework of this Project the terms of reference of Klaipeda passenger and cargo terminal were made, preparatory works of the terms of reference of Baltijos prospektas and extension of four years existing Ship Information System (SIS) by functionality of Geo-Information System (GIS).

Taking into consideration the positive evaluation of the program, „EAST-WEST TRANSPORT CORRIDOR“ Project will be included into a documentary film being created in 2008, where the results of INTERREG program will be stressed and the demand for new program will be motivated. It is foreseen even this autumn, i.e. in November 26 – 27 to present this 20 min. documentary film in Tallinn (Estonia) at the conference.

The aim of this documentary film is to present the results of INTERREG program and show what practical significance mutual cooperation of the Baltic Sea Region states might have to EU countries. The film will acquaint with the regions, active program partners and institutions, convey the ideas of the program and its influence for those regions; it will show the input of the projects in the development of the Baltic Sea region.

According to the valuations of the Joint Secretariat and Steering Committee in environment sector, the most successful Project was recognized „BALTCOAST - Integrated Coastal Zone Development in the Baltic Sea Region“, and in business development sector  – „CBSR - Connect Baltic Sea Region & CBSR +“ Project.
