OREANDA-NEWS. February 14, 2008. In January 2008, Vostochny port handled 1.705.2 million tonnes of cargo (+6.3%, year-on-year). In the reported period, transshipment of dry cargo totaled 1.701.3 million tonnes (+7.1%, year-on-year) including 1.401.6 million tonnes of dry bulk and loose bulk cargo (+7.8%). The port handled 1.301.5 million tonnes of coal and coke (+8.3%), 95,100 tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+1.6%), 22,100 tonnes of timber (-46.9%). Transshipment of general cargo amounted 19,900 tonnes including 7,800 tonnes of scrap metal (no scrap metal was handled in January 2007). The port’s container throughput totaled30,793 TEU (+4.4%). In the reported period the port handled 3,900 tonnes of oil products (down 4.4 times as compared with January 2007).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
