OREANDA-NEWS. On 14 February 2008 was announced, that OGK-5’s Reftinskaya GRES completed the comprehensive testing of the dry ash removal system on the electrostatic precipitator of Unit 6. The system does not have any analogues in Russia, while the combination of dry and traditional wet ash removal has not been used in the world before.

By now all the start-up and system component testing activities have been finished. After the handover of the as-built documentation for the assembled system, and its registration in the inspection bodies, the system will be accepted for industrial operation. The production and supply of the project equipment were carried out by Clyde Bergemann. Equipment assembly was performed by ZAO PO Uralenergomontazh.

This unique project is extremely important for the environment of the Urals region and is potentially interesting from the commercial aspect. The commissioning of the system will provide more than 400 thousand tonnes of extra dry ash per year to consumers working in the construction industry. Supply of dry ash to consumers will reduce the volume of ash storage, thus increasing the operating life of the ash dump, decreasing water consumption volumes by the wet ash removal system - in other words, the new system will help mitigate environmental impact. More than 320 million roubles were appropriated by OGK-5 for the implementation of the first phase of the project.

Moreover, on Boiler 6, a system for optimization of boiler operating modes was installed, which allows increasing the efficiency of the boiler, reducing specific fuel consumption and NOx emissions. At the moment, this system is in the pilot production phase with fine-tuning of its parameters.

The next phase of improving environment in the GRES area will be the implementation of the project for the reconstruction of the ash removal system using environmentally reliable technical solutions at all the units of the power plant.
