OREANDA-NEWS. On February 14, 2008 President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, on a working visit to the United Kingdom, met David Lewis, Lord Mayor of the world’s leading financial centre, the City of London, as well as representatives of finance and business community, reported the Official website www.president.lt.

Valdas Adamkus expressed his assurance in the further growth of the Lithuanian economy despite the current situation in the world’s financial markets.

‘Lithuanian economy has proven its flexibility by recovering after the crises it has experienced and has been rapidly growing since 2000. Even though this year has seen a rise in inflation rates, and Lithuania has a deficit budget, our country has sufficient prowess to overcome these difficulties,’ Mr. Adamkus pointed out.

President Adamkus mentioned such indicators of Lithuania’s economy as openness and dynamism, and invited the representatives of the British financial sector to invest in Lithuania.

Attending the meeting Finance Minister Rimantas Sadzius gave an overview of the financial situation in Lithuania and introduced the prospects of Lithuania’s future development.

The representatives of the British business community expressed interest in projects, public and by private businesses, energy, transportation and social security. It was pointed out that Lithuania was a country conducive to investment and that it continued creating a business-friendly environment.

In the opinion of President Adamkus, Lithuania – although not a big state – enjoys some unquestionable advantages: an open and flexible business environment and a qualified and competitive work force. Such a potential, Mr. Adamkus said, should attract the interest of the representatives of the financial centre of the City of London.
