OREANDA-NEWS. On 21 February 2008 was announced, that in 2007, production of wine in Tetra Pak aseptic carton package in Russia increased by 37% vs. 2006. In absolute terms the volume of wine in Tetra Pak packages reached 138 million liters.

The development was reflected both in a growing consumption volume and a further market diversification. New Tetra Brik Aseptic 500 Slim was launched last year. Premium wine segment in carton is growing at high pace, and 1 liter Tetra Prisma Aseptic 1000 Square package shows record-breaking dynamics; last year its sales increased by 200%.

A growing consumer demand and a huge potential bring new players to the market. In 2007, several companies started to produce wine in carton packages – Uniway Management, Eugenne Bougelais Wine, and Bodegas Vinos. Retail sector also shows interest to wine in carton. Some distribution chains currently produce their own “private label” table wine. Russian-made wine in cartons continues to displace the imported one.  Thus, during the last year imports of wine in cartons decreased by 17%, and domestic production showed a 37% growth.

According to Tetra Pak, an active market growth will continue in 2008. "The aseptic carton share on the table wine market grows consistently. Today it has already reached 24%”, - says Sergey Chaplin, Tetra Pak manager.

An intensive growth will continue further. In 2008, first wine in Tetra Brik Aseptic 250 Square portion pack (250 ml.) will be launched. This package will attract more attention to table wine and foster creation of a new individual consumption segment.

According to S. Chaplin, further market development of wine in carton shall be accompanied by creation of an efficient distribution network and strong brands, and thus strengthening of marketing role.

Теtrа Pak actively supports its customers both in processing and packaging solutions, as well as in marketing of table wine in cartons. For instance, in 2007 the company carried out a promotional campaign for this category in the retail network sector. Product sales growth in the retail networks involved in the campaign made 64%. 

The first international conference "Russian Wine Market – 2007" organized by Tetra Pak became an important event of last year. Its main goal was to make customers familiar with the structure, dynamics and key factors affecting the development of wine market in Russia.
At present Tetra Pak cooperates with 30 largest Russian wine producing companies.
