OREANDA-NEWS. February 22, 2008. JSC Novosibirsk Metallurgical Plant named after Kuzmin (NMP, ESTAR Group) spent about 15 mln rubles for nature protection works in 2007, according to the company’s press release.

Particularly, a set of activities for toughening the quality control of waste waters allowed reducing the discharge of pollutants in the Ob’ river by 20% as compared to 2006. Currently the enterprise has developed and implements a program for installing a waste waters discharge accounting system. The system will be completely implemented in the production cycle in 2008-2009 allowing a reduction of the pollutants discharge by further 10%.

“Last year, due to implementing a program of water consumption economy, its amount was reduced by 736,000 cubic meters (water consumption in 2007 reached 24,673,000 cubic meters, in 2006 – 25,171,000 cubic meters). Works for purification of the fuel oil catch tank utilized in the technological processes were carried out with the purpose of excluding oil products penetration in water basins with rain and melt waters”, as the press release informs.

Besides, one of the important nature protection measures was switching the continuous furnace No.3 of the hot roll shop from four-zone to three-zone metal heating.

“Change of the furnace construction allowed a considerable reduction of nitric oxides discharges in the atmosphere. In fact, last year the atmospheric discharge of pollutants was much less than the standards established by the Interregional Territorial Department of Russian Technological Monitoring Service for the Siberian Federal District; it amounted to 301.532 t per year”, as the press service says.

Minimal overall discharge should not exceed 441.685 t per year.

For the first time the minor reservoir of the sludge accumulator was completely cleaned, as one of the measures aimed at protecting the land resources from production and consumption residue. About 2 hectares of territory were put in order.

It is planned to assign 10 mln rubles for nature protection activities in the current year.
