OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2008. Quotas on the export of grain may increase by 1,7 million tons in Ukraine, a draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers says, reported the Official website www.kmu.gov.ua.

The document, particularly, proposes increase in the export quota of barley from 400,000 to 900,000 tons, and corn from 600,000 to 1,8 million tons.

A symbolic increase in the export quota of wheat (from 200,000 to 203,000 tons) is envisaged, while quota on the export of rye was left unchanged (3,000 tons).

The draft resolution proposes prolongation of quotas on the export of grain from Ukraine from March 31 to June 30, 2008.

As reported, Ukrainian grain traders licensed for exports within the frames of the 1.2-million-ton quota have started the first export deliveries.

Ukraine suspended grain export in the July 2007 - June 2008 marketing year because of export quotas.

In September 2007, the Cabinet of Ministers passed a resolution authorizing grain export of 1,203,000 tons (including 600,000 tons of corn, 400,000 tons of barley, 200,000 tons of 6th class fodder wheat and 3,000 tons of rye) November 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008. The term was later extended to December 31, 2007.
