OREANDA-NEWS. February 28, 2008. The Public Utilities Commission's council informed that, due to the increase of the price of heavy fuel oil from April 1, there will be a 17 percent to 21 percent increase in natural gas tariffs for Latvia's largest natural gas consumers.

LETA was informed by the press secretary at joint-stock gas supply company "Latvijas gaze" (LG) Vinsents Makaris that the changes were made due to the rapid global increase in the price of oil and oil products.

Tariffs must also be raised because, from April of this year, LG will receive gas directly from Russia's gas-pipe network.

Also from April, LG will begin to pay much more for Russian natural gas - the average European price.
