OREANDA-NEWS. March 3, 2008. Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port starts deepening of Tsemesskaya Bay so that it could handle large-capacity vessels (up to 70,000 tonnes). The decision was made at the meeting with deputy Ministr of Transport Aleksandr Misharin. The project implementation will attract new cargo flows to the port of Novorossiysk, press center of Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port OJSC reports.

According to the report, the meeting was dedicated to discussion of state contract for feasibility study of the project known as Integrated Development of Novorossiysk Transport Hub (Krasnodar territory) and aimed at improvement of cargo turnover in the port of Novorossiysk.

The main task set up by the state contract is to develop the project for transport infrastructure development and improvement of the capacity of railway and highway approaches to the port.

The projects envisaged by the contract include the development of the port of Novorossiysk and approaches, construction of federal highway М25 and development of road infrastructure around Novorossiysk, as well as construction of private terminals and reconstruction of the port’s berths. As of today, NCSP has completed the projects for construction of 4 terminals – on transshipment of grain, timber, container and bunker fuel.

NCSP operates primarily at the Port of Novorossiysk (the “Port”), a multi-purpose, year-round, deep-water port located on the Russian shore of the Black Sea which has a rare combination of geographic, topographic and infrastructure advantages among ports in the Black Sea-Azov basin. NCSP is the largest commercial sea port operator in Russia in terms of volume of cargo operations according to Global Insight/ISL. Its operates primarily at the Port of Novorossiysk, Russia’s largest sea port in terms of cargo turnover volume according to the Association of Russian Sea Ports, and Europe's fifth largest commercial sea port by cargo volume in 2005, according to Global Insight/ISL. NCSP handles approximately 20% by volume of cargoes shipped through Russian sea ports according to the Association of Russian Sea Ports.
During 2006, NCSP consolidated its shareholdings in the majority of other operators and stevedores in the Port.
