OREANDA-NEWS. March 6, 2008. In January-February 2008, Commercial Seaport Yuzhny (Ukraine) increased its throughput by 0.8%, year-on-year, to 3.45 million tonnes, the port’s press center informs. In the reported period, cargo handling totaled 2.262.9 million tonnes against planned 2.270.0 million tonnes (99.7% against plan and 100.7% against the same period of the previous year. In January-February, the company handled 231 vessels and 24,784 open-top wagons. In February 2008, the company’s throughput amounted to 1.735.2 million tonnes against planned 1.735.0 million tonnes (100% against plan and 101.2% against the same period of the previous year). Cargo handling made 1.116.8 million tonnes against planned 1.160.0 million tonnes (96.3% against plan and 100.7% against the same period of the previous year).

In February the port handled 118 vessels and 12,318 open-top wagons.

Yuzhny port is located at the north-western coast of the Black Sea, in ice-free Maly Adzhalyksky (Grigorievsky) estuary, 30 km from Odessa port. The port provides all-the-year-round navigation. The port’s approach channel is 2 miles long and 14.5 meters deep. As of today, Yuzhny is the second largest port in Ukraine in terms of throughput which is 20.698.6 million tonnes per year.
