OREANDA-NEWS. March 6, 2008. In January-February 2008, Vostochny Port OJSC increased its throughput by 19%, year-on-year, to 2.454.2 million tonnes, the port’s press center informs. In the reported period, Multi-purpose Production-and-Transshipment Complex handled 270,600 tonnes of cargo (+157%), Specialized Coal Complex – 2.183.6 million tonnes of coal (+12%).

Director General of Vostochny Port OJSC Sergei Kushnarev, attributes the growth to the increase in export of coal (195,900 tonnes against 30,300 tonnes in January-February 2007) as well as in transshipment of scrap metal (23,300 tonnes against 2,500 tonnes in January-February 2007) and ammonia sulfate (30,100 tonnes against 12,300 tonnes  in January-February 2007).Export coal accounts for 97% of the company’s total throughput. In January-February 2008 it handled 2.379.5 million tonnes (+120%, year-on-year).

In February 2008 the company increased its throughput by 29%, year-on-year, to 1.169.7 million tonnes. Multi-purpose Production-and-Transshipment Complex handled 132,400 tonnes of different cargo (+90%), Specialized Coal Complex – 1.037.3 million tonnes of coal (+24%).

Vostochny Port OJSC is the largest stevedoring company of Russia’s Far East. It specializes mainly in transshipment of coal. The structure of Vostochny Port OJSC comprises Specialized Coal Complex and Multi-purpose Production-and-Transshipment Complex specializing in transshipment of general and bulk cargo (clinker, coal, coke, iron-ore concentrate, timber etc.).
