OREANDA-NEWS. March 06, 2008. The National Food Council will be set in Belarus, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Kosinets noted during his visit to the foodstuffs research centre of the Belarusian National Academy of Sciences.

The new facility will coordinate the activity of food companies, provide expertise in foodstuffs’ receipts and also will be engaged in foodstuff pre-clinical and clinical testing. “I am ready to lead this council as I believe that the problem of the production of high-quality foodstuffs is too pressing for Belarus,” he said.

According to Alexander Kosinets, the National Food Council will be composed of specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs, the National Academy of Sciences, the Health Ministry. “They will be tasked to analyze the structure of the Belarusian food market, to evaluate the necessity to set up new productions in the country, to develop the measures to raise the competitiveness of the domestic foodstuffs,” he said.

The country needs to set up the institute of food. The work of this research centre will be aimed at developing the new receipts of foodstuffs taking into consideration the recommendations of the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Foodstuffs. “The high-quality food is one of the main elements of demographic security, Alexander Kosinets noted. “We have all the possibilities to produce high-quality foodstuffs which will be in demand not only in this country but abroad as well,” he added.

To improve the quality of foodstuffs Belarus needs to employ up-to-date technologies and equipment, renovate production facilities and set up modern training centres which will train personnel for this branch.
