OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2008. KAMAZ-Metallurgy Plc. has purchased ProCAST - casting process simulation program (designer – ESI Group, France). This IT product gives the opportunity to simulate nearly all casting processes and to transfer the results of calculation for castings strength test. In its turn this enables to get optimal part design with good operating characteristics.

The first part to try abilities of ProCAST was drive shaft of high-pressure fuel pump (material – steel casting). Casting geometry was changed to reduce the defect (shrinkage cavities); the decision was made to produce it with thinner walls.

Nail Gimadeev, Chief Technologist, Foundry:

- ProCAST opens up great possibilities for market where the preference is given to small production batches and lead time is limited. This program allows to foundry, which was designed for mass production, to decrease the preproduction periods while developing new casting products, to compensate lack of experimental production areas where small batches could be produced. Tests are carried out virtually, i.e. without investment in tooling for test run and expensive tests. Thus good castings will be produced with minimum tooling modifications.

Introduction of the program, as one of the elements of engineering analysis, is of great importance in the light of preparing KAMAZ-Metallurgy for Certification of Quality Management System for conformity with ISO 16949, special standard in automotive industry.
