OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2008. Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan have adopted the draft measures aimed at implementing the plan of action for the formation of the EurAsEC Customs Union for 2008-2010. The document was on the agenda of the session of the members of the EurAsEC Integration Committee representing Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia. The Republic of Belarus was represented by Vice-Premier Andrei Kobyakov, Russia – by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation-chief of the Government Office Sergei Naryshkin, Kazakhstan – by Vice-Minister of industry and Trade Zhanar Aitzhanov.

EurAsEC Secretary General Tair Mansurov said that the plan of action has been adopted. It will be itemized taking into account the monthly, quarterly and half-year plans of action. Experts will consider the proposals of the commission to protect domestic markets by April. Then the draft plan will be introduced before the heads of government of the EurAsEC member states.

The legal treaty base has been created. Now the integration commission will be addressing the issues concerning further implementation of the plan of actions for the formation of the Customs Union, Tair Mansurov said.

He also noted that the Customs Union is a single customs territory having common border and tariffs. It is expected to facilitate trade between countries and encourage the economic development and help the member states join the WTO. “We have been working to create the most favoured regime for those who make part of the Customs Union. This process will contribute to the WTO accession,” Tair Mansurov said.

According to him, the Customs Union is the forerunner of the single economic space. It will identify the rules of game in respect of internal and foreign trade.
