OREANDA-NEWS. On 17 March 2008 was announced, that the city authorities of Moscow plan to build three large road tunnels within the framework of the erection of huge highways in the Russian capital.

The first tunnel with the length of 3,207 metres is intended to be put up from Krasnobogatyrskaya Street to Budyonnogo Prospekt.

It will be driven under Preobrazhenskaya and Semyonovskaya squares and become a part of Severnaya Rokada (Northern Belt Road), the construction of which is scheduled to be completed in 2012.

The second tunnel with the length of 4,500 metres will be included in Yuzhnaya Rokada (Southern Belt Road).

It will pass under Borisovskie Ponds through the railways of Paveletsky Railway Station into Varshavskoe Highway and end in Maryino district. So, the route will link Kashirskoe and Varshavskoe highways with Borisovskie Prudy Street.

The third tunnel with the length of 4,850 metres is to be the lengthiest underground route in Europe.

It will be driven under Kolomenskoe open-air museum and pass through Nagatinsky Zaton district to Pechatniki station of the Moscow Metro. The lower deck of the tunnel will be used for the metro railway line, the upper deck will have 4 lanes, each of which will have the 3.75-metre width.
