OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2008.  Russian and British nuclear power engineers have exchanged their experience of safe operation of nuclear power plants. In mid March a delegation of Rosenergoatom Concern visited British Energy company in compliance with the Plan of International Cooperation and with the support of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

The parties held a series of conferences on exchange of experience of organization of corporate control over the safety and efficiency of nuclear power plants. The Russian delegates visited the headquarters of British Energy and Hinkley Point Nuclear Power Plant and met with the deputy director general of British Energy, the managers of Hinkley Point and the corporate support and safety control executives of the British company.

For 30 years already British Energy and other power companies of the United Kingdom have successfully applied the practice of resident inspector. The inspectors see that nuclear power plants comply with their licenses and carry out necessary corporate measures to ensure their safety.

In 2003, in order to further enhance its efficiency, British Energy decided to increase the number of its resident inspections to 3 people per plant and to instruct them to supervise the plants’ measures for enhancing their efficiency and adopting the best international and corporate experience. The results of the following corporate inspections and international missions have shown that it was a right decision.

The Russian delegates informed their British colleagues about the performance of the Russian nuclear power plants in 2007 and Russia’s plans to build new reactors and to enhance the safety and efficiency of its existing nuclear power plants.

The Russian specialists pointed out the active work of British Energy to motivate its employees into more active work for the sake of the general success. In the central office of British Energy they saw lots of posters presenting the industrial and financial achievements of the company’s plants and the results of specific decisions as well as offering ways to enhance the efficiency of its personnel.
