On 27 March 2008 was announced, that on March 25, beginning from18:00, Moscow time, practically the whole territory of the central region of the Russian Federation experienced strong temperature reduction which was accompanied by abundant snow and wind of more than 25 km/s. It caused restrictions in the electric power supply of some sparsely populated settlements.

Thus, 588 pieces of 6/10kV transformer centers were disconnected, 59 transmission lines (TL) of 6-10 kV were re-energized in the electric systems of Belgorodenergo. The eastern area of the Smolensk territory also experienced power blackouts. There were troubles in operation of 325 transformer substations of 6/10kV there.

The squally wind became also the reason of switching-off in the Rzhev and Tver electric systems of JSC Tverenergo. The Orel area registered disconnection of 403 transformer centers of 6/10kV and 24 TL-6-10kV. There was disconnection of 508 TS and 40 TL in the Bryansk area.

The total amount of switching-off is 2,440 transformer substations and 200 transmission lines of different voltage classes disconnected from 25 to 26 March on the IDGC of Centre's responsibility zone territory

Powermen of IDGC of Centre were prepared for the elements. After reception of the weather report, the company created the operative staff under supervision Of Deputy General Director for the Technical Policy Sergey Schumakher. A special procedure of control over the course of liquidation of consequences of technological failures was implemented.

The distribution grid companies at once organized round-the-clock duty of the strengthened repair brigades, operation of additional special equipment, supply of materials was provided. Interaction with Civil Defence and Emergency Situations structures and administration of the regions was organized. In accordance with the operational messages rules, gathering and transfer of the information is carried out in the speeded-up mode.

According to the department of the organization of operational dispatching management of IDGC of Centre, owing to operative and professional actions of the powermen as of 13:00 on 26 March 2008, Moscow time, restored electricity supply of 1,193 transformer centers disconnected by the elements.

Repair works are conducted all over the territories and will be continued round the clock - till complete elimination of all malfunctions in the grid complex. Regional grid companies of IDGC of Centre involved 246 repair brigades.
