OREANDA-NEWS. On March 29, 2008 in Tehran, Russian Railways signed a contract with Iranian Railways on the electrification of the railway line between Tabriz and Azarshahr, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

The main work will be carried out by Zarubezhstroitekhnologiya, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, in conjunction with the Iranian subcontractor. Most of the construction materials and equipment to be used on the project will be Russian-made.

The electrification of the 46km Tabriz - Azarshahr line is aimed, first and foremost, at providing a rail service for students between the city of Tabriz and the Pedagogical University.

The term of the contract, including design and construction work, is 9 months, and on completion, there is a warranty for the first 18 months of operation.
