OREANDA-NEWS. On March 29, 2008 (on Saturday) at about 8 00 h in the morning Port Dispatcher’s Office got a notice from UAB „Vakaru laivu gamykla“ captain on duty that at quay No 138 (operated by UAB „Vakaru laivu gamykla“) there was a spill of water polluted with oil products from the ship „Ozherelye“ flying Russian flag and being repaired at the plant. The ship „Ozherelye“, the agent of which is UAB „Uosto vartai“, is  63 m of length and  13,8 m beam, reported the press-centre of Klaipeda State Seaport.
 
Having got the notice, the Dispatcher’s Office of SE Klaipeda State Seaport Authority immediately informed Emergency situations management centre and responsible officers and sent to the place of incident a rescue cuter „Zaibas“, the crew of which examined the situation, evaluated it and put 90 m of length booms in order to protect port waters from further spread of pollutants.
 
Later on, when the ship „Ozherelye“ was fenced by booms and the spill of oil products to the water territory was stopped, collection of polluted water started to UAB „Vakaru laivu gamykla“ belonging polluted garbage collector „Sarka“.
 
On the 30th of March 2008 (on Sunday) booms were taken away and on the 31st of March the collection of polluted water was completed.  The more exact quantity of pollutants is  still being determined as the web of the spilt pollutants washed from the dock is still being collected
 
The purposes of the incident are still being determined.
