OREANDA-NEWS. April 14, 2008. The Board of Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies summed up today in Baku results of information and communications sector development of Azerbaijan in the first quarter of 2008.

Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov said today that comparing to the same term of 2007 volume of rendered services grew by 49.5% and reached AZN 204.5 million.

“79.9% of received income fell to the state sector and 79.1% of services were rendered to population. 73.6% of income fell to the share of mobile communications operators; comparing to the first quarter of 2007 growth race totaled 61.2%. In the first quarter of 2008 the share of telecommunications sector made only 1.9% of country’s GDP. For the reported period communications companies transferred to the state budget AZN 6.9 million, and AZN 2.35 million to the State Social Protection Fund,” Minister said.

Communications institutions in the structure of the Ministry received AZN 46.7 million of income (with forecast of AZN 46.5 million). Ministry’s enterprises invested AZN 4,300,000.
