OREANDA-NEWS. April 15, 2008. As of 1 April, 2008, the Russian fleet of freight wagons consisted of 976,100 units, an increase of 5% on April 1, 2007, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

The number of open boxcars increased by 10,5%, other (specialized) wagons by 4,5%, tank wagons by 1,5% and covered wagons by 0,6%, while the number of flat wagons fell by 1,7%.

The Russian Railways’ fleet fell by 8% to 539,700 wagons, or 55,3% of the total.

The fleet of the Company’s subsidiaries and affiliated companies increased 2,6 times and exceeded 82,000 wagons or 8,4% of the total.

The fleet of independent private companies increased by 13,5% to about 354,300 units, 36,3% of the total rolling stock.

On April 1, 2008, the Russian Railways’ fleet consisted of over 255,000 wagons, about 56,000 tank wagons, nearly 53,000 flatbed wagon, 70,000 covered wagons and 107,000 wagons of various other types.

The fleet of the Company’s subsidiaries and affiliated companies consisted of over 10,500 wagons, almost 20,000 tank wagons 4,500 flatbed wagons, more than 2,700 covered wagons and about 45,000 wagons of various other types.

The fleet of independent private companies consisted of about 83,000 wagons, nearly 158,000 tank wagons, more than 11,000 flatbed wagons, over 15,000 covered wagons and more than 87,000 wagons of various other types.
