Within the framework of official visit of Prime-Minister of Republic of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov to People's Republic of China, on April 9, 2008 in Peking city the Chairman of Managing Board of JSC Kazakhtelecom Askar Zhumagaliev and Senior Vice-President of China Network Communications (Group) Company Limited Mr. ChZhao Dzhiodong have signed the memorandum of understanding. This document arranges intentions of parties on organization of boundary joint of networks in "Horgos" rayon with capacity 10Gbps with use of DWDM technology.

The activization of collaboration with foreign operators is one of important purposes, specified in JSC Kazakhtelecom’s Development plan for 2007-2009. Today access to foreign markets is considered by JSC Kazakhtelecom’s management as one of measures, which will contribute to expansion and diversification of company activity, forming of optimal structure of transnational operator, as well as effective use of transit potential of republic.

The signed document is one more step in promotion by JSC Kazakhtelecom of international project on transit of information highways (traffic) between South-East Asia and Europe through land networks of China, Kazakhstan and Russia round about existing submarine cable systems. The realization of this project allows in full to use the transit potential of Kazakhstan for provision to clients of shortest and reliable way between Asia and Europe.

Necessity of realization of the project was especially felt on an example of telecommunication crisis, occasioned by earthquake in the end of December, 2006 near Taiwan Island, as result of which, the most part of countries of South-East Asia was left unprovided for access to Internet, for reasons of damage of most part of submarine cable systems in this region.
