OREANDA-NEWS. On 17 April 2008 OMZ OJSC, announced the development of production technology for new rotors for ultra supercritical steam turbines. Ultra supercritical steam parameters provide more than 300 atm pressure and temperatures of over 590-650ОC.

Among participants in the new production technology’s development were several OMZ Group companies including OMZ Special Steels, OMZ-Izhora Scientific and Research Center and TSNIITMASH.

Billets made from costly high-chromium steels are needed for the production of the new-generation rotors. By late 2008 OMZ Special Steels plans to produce a first trial billet of this type. The billet will be produced from superpure steel requiring special regimes of smelting, forging and thermal processing. Thermal processing of the rotor will be conducted at temperatures ranging from 1,080 оC to 1,100 оC.

Development of new high-tech science-intensive products will allow OMZ to produce the new-generation rotors first of all for Russia and also for China, CIS countries, Baltic countries and other European markets. The company plans to invest RUR10 million into this development.
