OREANDA-NEWS. April 18, 2008. Under the agreement signed by the JSC Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant (St. Petersburg) and the Lithuanian railway (Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai), the plant will perform an overhaul, type 2, of 12 passenger compartment cars, type 47K, reported the press-centre of Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant.

The new contract will launch the first cooperation between the St. Petersburg plant and the Lithuanian railway.

The plant won a tender performed in late 2007 beating an Estonian JSC Aeston.

The rolling stock to be overhauled was manufactured in 1984 - 1988 by German and Tver enterprises. The cars are expected to arrive and be accepted by the plant in April.

The overhaul includes painting with advanced paint and varnish, anti-graffiti enamel, installation of air conditioning units in some of the cars, equipment for disabled passengers, new metal-plastic windows, wear-resistant linoleum, environmentally-clean WCs, data displays, new water heaters, fuel car heating systems.

The overhauled cars will be delivered to the customer in December 2008.

It is not the first foreign order of the JSC Oktyabrsky Electric Railway Car Repair Plant. In 2007, the enterprise signed a contract for an overhaul of nine rail cars with the Kazakhstan railways. The compartment cars were redesigned into interregional (seating) cars and overhauled. The final batch of four cars will be delivered to the customer on April 10.
