OREANDA-NEWS. On April 22, 2008 Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy and the deputy mayors of Krakow and Wroclaw, Poland, signed a declaration of joint actions to implement the project for construction of the Poland-Ukraine European railway track.

The press service of the Lviv regional council reported that the document foresees support for implementing the Ukrainian-Polish project to build a 1.435-meter-wide railway track at the Przemysl-Lviv section as part of the third European transport corridor (Dresden-Wroclaw-Krakow-Lviv).

Sadovy said the construction of the railway track is assessed at EUR 400 million. Lviv is already holding talks on supporting the project with the Ukrainian Ministry of Transport and Communications.

He noted the ministry would support the project, if there would be investment funds. According to him, the European Union plans to allocate 75% of the funds for implementation of the project.
Ukraine and Poland won their joint bid to host the finals of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship. Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Lviv are to host Euro 2012 football matches. Kharkiv and Odesa are reserve cities.
