OREANDA-NEWS. May 6, 2008. In January-April, 2008, Vostochny Port OJSC handled 4.866.6 million tonnes of cargo, which makes 99% of the year-on-year result, the company’s press center reports.

In April the company handled 963,400 tonnes of different cargo (-38.6%, year-on-year).In April, Universal Handling Terminal handled 139,400 tonnes of different cargo (+29%, year-on-year). In the four-month period, the terminal’s berths handled 590,200 tonnes of cargo (+105%).

Specialized Coal Terminal (PPK-3) handled 824,000 tonnes of coal (-43.6%, year-on-year). In January-April, its throughput amounted to 4.276.4 million tonnes of coal (-8%).

According to Sergei Kushnarev, Director General of Vostochny Port OJSC, April decrease should be attributed to fluctuation of prices for thermal coal at the global market resulting in change of vessel schedule and the decrease of coal removal from storage facilities. As of today, the port operates according to a regular schedule.

Vostochny Port Joint Stock Company - is the largest stevedore company in the Far East of Russia. Its main specialization is coal handling using conveyer equipment.

Company consists of Specialized Coal and Universal Handling Terminals (PPK-1). It specializes in handling of general and such bulk cargoes as clinker, coal, coke, iron ore concentrate, timber and others. PPK-1 can work with metal, cellulose, argil and also with chemical, long-length and heavily-loaded cargoes.
