OREANDA-NEWS. On May 11, 2008 System Capital Management is one of the sponsors of the Europe Day celebrations which will took place in Kyiv. This is the third year that SCM has supported this celebration of all things European, reported the press-centre of SCM.

This year, Europe Day is organised by the Government of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine and the embassies of the EU Member States and Candidate Countries.

Europe Day celebrations in Kyiv included a European Village in the city’s main street, Khreshchatyk, representing 28 European countries including Ukraine. Each embassy invited visitors to learn more about their country's geography, history, culture, music, people and cities, and to take part in games and quizzes. The Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, the European Youth Parliament and many other organisations were also represented on Khreshchatyk.

In the evening a major free concert took place on Kiyv’s main square, Maidan, featuring leading European bands including a German jazz band, Inculto from Lithuania, Dazzle Dreams from Ukraine, Vanilla Sky from Italy and famous Ukrainian ethno rock band Vopli Vidoplyasova (VV). Last year the European Day events proved hugely popular with Ukrainians attracting in over 350,000 people to the festivities and concerts in both Kyiv and Yalta. This year the Europe Day festival will also take place in Odesa on 14th May and on Donetsk on 17th May. The Odesa and Donetsk events will also feature a European Village as well as a free evening concert featuring InCulto, VV and headlined by Brainstorm.

Commenting on SCM’s support for European Day, Jock Mendoza-Wilson, the company’s Director of International and Investor Relations said: “Europe Day is a great reminder of the increasingly close cultural and economic relationship between Ukraine and the European Union. We are pleased to be able to make a contribution to the deeper understanding of Europe and the European Union in Ukraine and delighted that this event will also take place in Donetsk for the second time.”
