OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2008. The Turkmen capital hosted the Turkmen-Korean economic forum. The delegation of the Republic of Korea led by Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Seung-soo representing the government agencies and business companies including LG, Samsung, Daewoo took part in the forum. The senior officials and specialists of the sectoral ministries and departments represented Turkmenistan at the forum.

The current issues of development of bilateral partnership were put on the agenda of the meeting held at the conference hall of the President Hotel. Opening the forum Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov invited the participants to widely exchange views on the prospects and opportunities of Turkmen-Korean partnership that was brought up at a new level nowadays. Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Seung-soo reaffirmed the Korean businessmen’s intense interest in co-operating with Turkmenistan as a country with the huge resource and economic potential and the worldwide reputation of a dependable and competent partner.

The representatives of Korea’s large financial organisations and business companies stated their intention to operate on the very promising Turkmen market that, in their opinion, provided every favourable condition for successful investment activity. The guests presented the potential and expertise of the Korean leading companies standing ready to offer advanced technologies and equipment for various sectors of Turkmen economy to the Turkmen partners. In this context the forum participants focused on the necessity of establishing the regular exchange of economic information.

The priority fields of co-operation included the fuel and energy sector, trade and economy, construction and textile industries, transport and communications and the humanitarian sphere. The partners called for establishing the close inter-institute and scientific contacts. Emphasis was put on the issues of applying the innovative technologies including the multimedia and information technologies in the educational process. The opportunities of opening the faculty of the Korean language at an institution of higher education in Turkmenistan were considered.

Summing up the forum the participants focused on the necessity of maintaining the regular contacts between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea to form an effective co-operation model meeting the spirit of the times and the interests of equal mutually advantageous partnership.
