OREANDA-NEWS. June 2, 2008. Three first lots of nuclear fuel for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (India) have been delivered to the construction site.

The fuel is supplied in the form of fuel assemblies with 4.1%-enriched uranium-235. The delivered lots are enough for the initial fueling of one reactor and its refueling a year after the launch.

The deliveries are being carried out in accordance with the contract and the IAEA requirements.

The fuel has been fabricated by one of TVEL Corporation, Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant, where it had been stored before delivery.

The deputy director general of NCCP Konstantin Grabelnikov says that the fuel has been fabricated in full compliance with the requirements of the plant’s integrated management system and quality management program. “The start of the deliveries has proved that the Russian party fully complies with the contract,” says Grabelnikov.

“We are impressed with the persistence and diligence of our Indian colleagues. They are showing high diligence and strong aspiration to carry the project through,” says the deputy chief engineer of Atomenergoproekt (Mocow), one of the designers of Kudankulam Mikhail Klonitsky. “They are doing the work themselves even though they could have had the work done by the Russian party.”
