OREANDA-NEWS. On 03 June 2008 was announced, that specialists of JSC COMSTAR-UTS took part in the 7th International conference "Development of info-communication technologies and services. NGN in Russia. Content" (NGN-2008), which took place on May 27-28, 2008 in Saint-Petersburg, in Leningrad Branch Scientific Research Institute of Communication (FSUE LONIIS).

The Conference, organized by the Ministry of telecommunications and mass communications of the Russian Federation together with JSC Svyazinvest, is one of the most significant and major events of the year, focused on the support of development of modern info-communication technologies in Russia. Primary objective of the conference is to discuss the most up-to-date issues related to development and improvement of national info-communication infrastructure, analysis of the accumulated experience, evaluation of the current status and further perspectives of NGN, implementation of new telecommunication technologies and services.

Within the frames of theme-based session "Experience, problems in implementation and operating of modern info-communication technologies" Elena Beskhmelnitsina, Principal engineer of the Department for the network strategic development, COMSTAR-United TeleSystems represent her report "Development perspectives of IMS technology in the network of JSC COMSTAR-UTS". She spoke about the Company’s plans related to creation of a test zone with IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) architecture on the basis of MGTS network. According to the point of view of the operator implementation of the new technological platform has the following major advantages: simplification of mechanism and reduction of timeframes for the launch of new services, reduction of capital expenditures and revenues increase due to implementation of perspective services, unification of service management system and tariffication system. For subscribers IMS means simplicity and comfort of services use anytime, everywhere using any terminal, bundling and possibility to pay for different services via single bill, they can administrate their services themselves, guarantee of high quality and security, economically favorable terms of the service use and flexible system of tariffication.

Nowadays leading worldwide vendors propose IMS solutions (Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Nortel, Siemens), and largest operators such as France Telecom, British Telecom, Vodafone, Telefonica, Sprint, Telecom Italia and others actively construct their networks on the base of IMS. COMSTAR-UTS is the first Russian operator who starts testing IMS equipment in the network of its subsidiary company MGTS. In case of the pilot project success it is supposed to switch over to full-scale implementation of the given platform as an alternative variant of the network modernization.

The conference gathered together representatives of State regulatory bodies, leading fixed-line and mobile networks operators, corporate telecom networks, manufacturers and suppliers of telecom equipment and applications, scientific and research and design institutes, for consideration of such important issues, related to the development of telecom networks of the new generation in our country, as: influence of regulatory and legal framework on deployment of NGN networks, different ways and models of migration to NGN-infrastructure, yield increase methods in terms of modern networks, convergent telecom services and value-added services, Triple Play, certification and unification of equipment and some other issues.
