OREANDA-NEWS. On June 03, 2008 Russian Railways abolished charges for reserving seats on long-distance trains when purchasing tickets through the Company’s web portal, reported the press-centre of Russian Railways.

Also scrapped are the charges made through the web of legal persons whom Russian Railways has permitted to purchase travel documents.

The charge was 143 roubles.

Between 14 May 2007 and 2 June 2008 inclusive, the Company’s online ticketing system for long-distance trains processed 253,099 seats.

Purchasing train tickets via the Internet can be done on all long-distance trains to Russia and on international fronts, excluding the Kaliningrad region.

The most popular routes processed through the Internet are between Moscow and St. Petersburg, Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and Kazan, Moscow and Kiev.
