OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2008. Since 2000 up to 2008, total assets of the banking sector of Moldova increased by 7,5 times including the stock of the credits by 10,1 times.

According to the report on the activities of NBM and the banking sector, in corresponding period, the share of net loans in the amount of assets increased from 43,4% in 2000 up to 63,5% on April 30, 2008.

At the same time, NBM notes that the quality of loan portfolio improved - the share of adverse loans to total loans fell by 17 points - up to 3,6% by the end of the first quarter of 2008. At the same time, the share of the assets of the large banks (more than 3 billion leis) amounted to 55,8% of the total bank assets as of April 30, 2008, bonds – 57,5% and total statuary capital – 46,9%, respectively.

Since December 31, 2000 to April 30, 2008, bank bonds grew by 8,9 times, including deposits attracted from individuals and legal entities - by 9,9 times.

According to NBM, as of April 30, 2008 return on assets of the banks amounted to 4,3% and return on equity – 24,8%. In 2007, net profit of the banks amounted to 1 billion 94,8 million leis, increasing as compared to 2000 up to 805,9 million leis (by 3,8 times). As of April 30, 2008, 16 joint-stock banks, authorised by NBM, including three branches of the foreign banks, operate in Moldova.
