OREANDA-NEWS. On 11 June 2008 was announced, that PAVA brings the sowing operations to a close keeping 5 days ahead of the schedule. Crop production is an activity that the company, one of the three largest Russian grain processors, started only recently. First successful results of OJSC PAVA arable units prove that there are significant prospects in this line of the company’s   business .

To recap, this year OJSC “Selhozholding” (Romanovsky district), PAVA structural subdivision, was enlarged by joining “ Seliverstovo ” unit, an enterprise from the nearby Volchihinsky district. In past years, lands owned by these farms were mismanaged both in terms of planting methods and crop cultivation.

Extensive arable farming, low quality of seeds, failure to keep the sowing rate year after year led to poor crops. The situation changed radically after the new investor came. This spring, seeds of high reproduction were bought; in order to switch to a scientifically based crop rotation, other crops apart from wheat were sown – peas, barley, oats and sunflower. Altering crops on one field during a number of seasons will allow to use the productive potential of the lands more fully, to achieve the optimal structure of the soil. In addition this scheme will prolong the harvesting period which could significantly lower the load on a machinery item. Besides, introducing crop rotation scheme wouldn’t be possible without up-to-date machinery, that is why “Selhozholding” mechanics conducted the current campaign using new, imported tractors and planters.

“All the developments taking place in our arable units will make it possible for us to preserve purity of variety and quality of the seeds”, says Andrey Ananin, OJSC PAVA Director General. “Along with the improvement of soil structure and increasing the yield we plan to obtain our own seeds and use them in sowing campaigns of the coming years”.
