OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2008. Representatives of the European Commission, the EU Joint Research Center, Iberdrola Spain) and Sogin (Italy) (the western TACIS advisers at Kola Nuclear Power Plant) met with their colleagues from Kola NPP, the International Activities Department and the Central Office of Rosenergoatom Concern to discuss their work under TACIS and INSC (Instrument for Nuclear Safety Cooperation) programs.
 
Presently, the parties are successfully implementing a large-scale project to build a liquid radioactive waste treatment system. Under this project Kola NPP will be supplied with unique equipment worth over 10mln EUR.

The conferees also discussed the course of “soft” assistance projects, i.e. projects aimed at adaptation of western safety and efficiency experience at Russian nuclear power plants.
 
The parties are planning several new projects, particularly, to optimize maintenance campaigns, to introduce ALARA principle, to treat radioactive waste.

The guests visited the fire station of Kola NPP and inspected the equipment supplied recently under TACIS program.

The conferees pointed out the big contribution of the European Union to the safety and efficiency of Kola NPP.
