OREANDA-NEWS. On 20 June 2008 was announced, that more than half of dilapidated 5-storey panel houses, almost 1,200 buildings with the total area of over 4 million sq m, are to be demolished in Moscow by 2009.

“We plan to have 4.24 million sq m of housing demolished in 2008. It is almost 1,200 houses. In total 6.4 million sq m are to be demolished by 2010. So, a little bit more than 2 million sq m will be left for 2009-2010,” Vladimir Resin, acting city mayor of Moscow, said at a live program on TV Tsentr television on June 17.

According to the official, the program aimed at pulling down the dilapidated 5-storey houses has been already completed in the central district of Moscow and soon will be completed in the southeastern one. “The work is facing some problems in the old districts of the city: the northern and northeastern ones. But they will be solved there,” Mr Resin assured.
