OREANDA-NEWS. June 24, 2008. The first concrete will be cast in the foundation plate of the reactor compartment of the 1st unit of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant-2 on June 24.

This will mark the beginning of the principal stage of the construction of Novovoronezh NPP-2, a project envisaged by the federal target program for the development of the nuclear power industry of Russia in 2007–2010 and -2015.

The governor of Voronezh region Vladimir Kulakov, the director general of Atomenergoproekt FSUE Vladimir Generalov, representatives of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation, Atomenergoprom OJSC, Rosenergoatom Concern will attend the ceremony.

Novovoronezh NPP is a historic site: all types of WWER reactors have been built here starting from WWER-210 (in 1964) to WWER-1000 (the 5th unit of the plant launched in 1980).

The 1st unit of Novovoronezh NPP-2 will have a WWER-1200 reactor (1,200MW).

As of today, the general contractor of the project, Atomenergoproekt, has built the concrete mats of the reactor and auxiliary buildings, has waterproofed the buildings, has mounted lightning arresters and strain gauges, is laying the foundations of the machine compartment and the reserve diesel power plants.

In Jan-May 2008 Atomenergoproekt spent over 1bln RUR. Over 900 people and 250 vehicles are involved in the project for the moment.
