OREANDA-NEWS. June 24, 2008. The Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Inspection (Rostekhnadzor) has granted Rosenergoatom Concern a license for the construction of the 1st unit of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2.

For 11 months the Scientific-Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Rostekhnadzor examined the documents substantiating the safety of the 1st unit of Leningrad NPP-2. “As a result, we have found out that the documents comply with the relevant federal rules and standards. We have detected no mistakes that might prevent the construction of the reactor. The ecological inspection has also approved the project: the 1st reactor of Leningrad NPP-2 complies with the federal environment protection standards,” say the experts.

The head of the Directorate for the Construction of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant-2 Oleg Lebedev says that “the preparatory work we started in 2007 is now entering the phase of principal construction.”

Over 450 people, 208 vehicles and 127 special systems are involved in the preparatory stage of the project.

In June 2008 the number of workers will be increased to 700.
