OREANDA-NEWS. June 25, 2008. An inter-sector conference on the experience of Kursk Nuclear Power Plant in introducing an automated system of control and testing of generators at turbine generator plants has taken place at Kursk NPP. Specialists of Power Machines, Rosenergoatom Concern, All-Russian Energy Institute, Balakovo, Kursk, Smolensk and Novovoronezh NPPs attended the conference.

One of the designers of the automated control system of Kursk NPP Vladimir Belov told the conferees about the system and its parameters. The testing of the system at the 1st and 2nd units has proved its wide capacities of early detection of problems in the turbine generator cooling system.

The system helps the plant to timely respond to any problems in the work of turbine generators. The system has been designed by Energosoyuz CJSC with the support of Kursk NPP and the branch of Power Machines, Electrosila. The designers showed the conferees the system at work.

The head of the Electric Power Machines of Electrosila, member of the Academy of Electro-technical Sciences Elrikh Gurevich pointed out that Kursk NPP was the first Russian power plant to have put into service an automated system of temperature control and enlarged monitoring of the thermal parameters of turbine generators. He said that the system complied with all modern standards in the field of thermal control of turbine generators. The system helps to maintain turbine generators more effectively based on the results of preliminary testing.

The conferees approved the experience of Kursk NPP and recommended to disseminate it among the other Russian NPPs.
