OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2008. At the invitation of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan a delegation of the Swiss National Bank led by Head of Cash Mr. Roland Tornare visited Ashkhabad.

During the two-day visit the Swiss experts held a series of the working meetings and talks with the specialists of the Central Bank of Turkmenistan on the aspects of denomination of the Turkmen manat and participated in the special seminar along with the specialists of the Turkmen ministries and departments, in particular the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Economy and Development, the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development, the State Committee for Statistics and other institutions concerned. During the meeting the foreign partners shared experience in carrying out the currency reforms in different countries and noted the positive impact of the reforms on further development of national economies.

The denominated manats will be put into circulation in Turkmenistan on January 1, 2009. Denomination of the national currency unit will mark an important stage of the currency reform initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Enabling to strengthen the national currency, simplify the price formation process, and therefore facilitate accounting and statistical reporting it will directly foster Turkmenistan’s integration into the global economic system.

Preparing for this important action the Central Bank carries on the organizational and coordination activities to introduce automated programmes as well. The considerable work was done to improve the design of the denominated manats, which will meet the international standards.
