OREANDA-NEWS. July 02, 2008. The European Commission will obtain a mandate for talks on Ukraine's accession to Europe's energy community no later than September 2008, Fuel and Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan told reporters.

According to him, a work was intensified to elaborate a program on creation of technical conditions for integration of Ukraine's united energy systems into a synchronic zone of UCTE (Union for the Co-ordination of Transmission of Electricity). An UCTE project group Ukraine-Moldova started work to define a list of activities for transfer of the country's united energy systems to a parallel operation with energy unions of European states.

On May 4, 2006, the UCTE General Assembly accepted a joint application from Ukraine and Moldova on accession of the energy systems to the UCTE synchronic zone. The parties agreed to set up a special technical committee (UCTE-Ukraine) for coordination of integration of Ukraine's united energy systems into trans-European electric networks.

On December 1, 2005, Ukraine and the European Union signed the memorandum of mutual understanding and cooperation in energy area. Burshtynska TPP and a part of Ukraine's western energy system have been operating in a parallel regime with the united energy system of European states - UCTE since July 2002.
