OREANDA-NEWS. July 7, 2008. Russian Federation President Dmitry Medvedev paid an official visit to Turkmenistan on July 4-5, 2008.  Representatives of the Turkmen business community and their Russian colleagues held high-level discussions as part of that visit. Stroytransgaz President Victor Lorents, among the delegation of Russia’s top management, participated in the bilateral meetings.

During the discussion, Turkmen and Russian business leaders discussed cooperation currently underway and perspectives for future collaboration between the countries in the oil and gas industry. Particular emphasis was placed on realizing projects, including projects in which Stroytransgaz is a participant, that will positively influence further development of relations between Russia and Turkmenistan.

A day earlier, in Ashgabat, Mr. Lorents met with the deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, T. T. Tagiev.  They discussed the project that Stroytransgaz is currently realizing under a resolution signed by Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in February 2008. Prospects for cooperation, including the company’s possible participation in the Prikasniyskiy gas pipeline and construction of Turkmenistan’s gas distribution system, which will run more than 1,000 kilometers, were also considered during that meeting.

It is worth noting that Stroytransgaz is currently taking part in a tender for construction of the Malai booster compression station in Turkmenistan.

Collaboration is developing in education as well. Last year Stroytransgaz agreed to extend financial support for gifted Turkmen students. Twenty students are now studying in Russia: ten at the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas and five each at Ufa State Oil Technological University and Tomsk Polytechnic University.
